Greek giants AEK Athens have completed the signing of Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana. The
21-year-old is set to join AEK on loan until the end of the season, with an option to buy for £20m. However,
Fabrizio Romano reports that the deal ran into problems towards the end when the two clubs began exchanging documents.
The two clubs continue to disagree on several points, and there is little time to salvage the deal, with the Greek transfer market set to close.
Datro Fofana made the move to Stamford Bridge in 2023 after Chelsea paid £8.4million, luring him away from Norwegian club Molde. In four appearances for the Blues, he has failed to find the target and has been on two loan spells with Union Berlin and Burnley, scoring six goals in 34 outings across two stints.
Fofana signed for Chelsea in January 2023, but he is not in new manager Enzo Maresca’s plans.
The Ivory Coast striker made just four appearances for the Blues before loan spells at โปรโมชั่น ufabet Urion Berlin and then Burnley.
He scored four goals in 15 Premier League games for Burnley in the second half of last season.
Chelsea are ready to offload Fofana to reduce their squad, with the likes of Ben Chilwell, David Washington, Alex Matos and Harvey Vale all thought to be in the running.
They sold a total of 40 players in the summer, with Thiago Silva, Romelu Lukaku, Conor Gallagher, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Raheem Sterling all expected to leave.
