Paolo Maldini has confirmed that Serie A remains among Europe’s top three leagues in terms of technique and tactics, and named former club AC Milan as one of the title contenders behind Inter. Maldini
stepped down as sporting director in the middle of last year and now the Rossoneri under new manager Paulo Fonseca have made a disappointing start, failing to win any of their first three league games, drawing two and losing one, and are now in 14th place.
As a player, Maldini helped Milan play in Serie A for 25 seasons before retiring in 2009. Speaking to the press on Monday, he gave his thoughts on the competition.
“Inter are the most prepared team. The other teams have made many changes and need time to adapt,” the former Italy international, who has won 126 caps for his country, said.
“Last year, Milan finished as runners-up and are now also favourites. Juventus have made a number of signings, as have Napoli and Roma – these are the teams fighting for the title. “

“Some players show their talent from the beginning, some take time. Maybe Daniel is the latter, he has unique qualities with the ball and with his vision. Physically he’s developed a lot now so it’s time to prove himself.”
